WCHS Student Council Gives $1,370 to CASA

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

With school support, the Warsaw Community High School Student Council raised $1,370.92 during Pink Week Oct. 8-12 for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund through the K21 Health Foundation.

This morning, student council members Jeanette Sanchez, Bethany Young and Melissa Sanchez presented a big pink check to K21 Executive Director Rich Haddad.

Sanchez, student body student council president, said the school had hat day where students paid $1 to be able to wear a hat to school. A silent auction of flower bouquets raised some money, with Anderson Greenhouse donating the flowers. T-shirts also were sold.

There also was a competition during lunch where students put money in a jar for the principal they wanted to see get slimed.

Assistant Principal Terry Roe’s jar ended up with the most money in it. Roe got slimed – which was pink – during halftime of the Oct. 12 football game, along with Principal Troy Akers. If more than 800 students wore pink Oct. 12, Akers agreed to get slimed. Sanchez said more than 800 wore pink to make it happen.

Haddad said, “The financial assistance going out this year will set all-time records. The assistance of the student council is very much needed and appreciated because we are helping more families  through the Cancer Care Fund. It’s awesome that they’re doing stuff like this. The money in this fund goes back to families who really need it.”[[In-content Ad]]
