Jackson appeared in March in a Design Essentials advertisement in Essence magazine. Design Essentials is a hair company based in Georgia.
“My cousin, Trevor Jackson is 15 and did Broadway, appearing in ‘The Lion King,’ and now he’s in the movies,” she said.
While filming a movie in Georgia, Trevor invited his family down, including Ryesha. In Atlanta, a woman asked Ryesha if she was interested in modeling. When Ryesha responded in the affirmative, the woman hooked her up with another person connected to Design Essentials.
“I’ve never modeled before,” Ryesha said during an interview Monday afternoon. “Not at all. It was exciting.”
She got there on a Friday. There, treatment was put in her hair for the photo shoot Saturday.
“The next day they started really early. There was five other girls,” she said.
After brushing out and doing her hair, Ryesha then was sent to makeup. It was done by celebrity makeup artist Jamillah Simmons. Simmons has done makeup for TNT, actress Gabrielle Union, actor Mike Epps, musical artist Chris Brown and many others.
The wardrobe for the photo shoot featured a lot of really nice outfits, she said. Then the photo shoot began.
“I did four looks. Everyone else did two or three,” Ryesha said.
By 10 p.m., she had her last 20-minute session, and her hair was done up in big Farrah Fawcett style.
“It was a really neat experience,” Ryesha said, and she got paid.[[In-content Ad]]Design Essentials also had Ryesha come back to make a tutorial video for their business. The advertisements she was in also were at a hair show convention.
“I have my own poster,” she said, and her advertisement also is on the Design Essentials website.
“My goal isn’t just stick and hair modeling,” Ryesha said. “I want to do more.”
She did go to a “America’s Next Top Model” call out, but left after finding the other women there were bickering too much.
She’s also hoping to land a Seventeen magazine scholarship, with the deadline being the end of this month.
“If that goes well, I could be on Seventeen magazine,” she said.
Ryesha said she definitely wants to go to college and have something to fall back on, but she also wants a modeling career. It’s a lot of fun, she said.
“I know I’m going to a (modeling) agency to see if it works out,” Ryesha said. “I’m going to be open about it.”
Her grandparents, Michael and Sheryl Hanna, Warsaw, also are very proud of her.
Ryesha said her grandparents buy a stack of every magazine.
“Just to see if (my ad) is in it,” she said.
