WCDC Releases Schedule For City Of Lakes Fest

By TERESA SMITH, Times-Union Staff Writer-

A City of Lakes Festival preliminary schedule was presented at the Warsaw Community Development Corp. board of director's meeting Wednesday.

Events are planned in Central Park, at the municipal airport, in Winona Lake and at Hidden Lake from June 21 - 23.

After reviewing minutes of a May 7 executive committee meeting, board member Bob Sanders commented that the board has become a screening committee.

"What do we need a board of directors meeting for?" he asked, noting the executive minutes looked like everything on the present agenda was already discussed.

Charlie Smith said nothing was decided at that meeting.

Kent Adams said he thought the executive sessions serve to bring issues to the board.

Carmen Lock, executive director of WCDC, commented that the executive board members bring information together and help keep the directors' meetings to an hour.

Sanders asked that the bylaws define the powers of the executive board. The bylaws state the executive committee shall act for the board of directors between meetings of the board or in the absence of a quorum.

A task force including Sanders, Dan Hampton, John Elliott and Brian Grantz was formed to rework the executive committee section.

In other business, the board:

• Heard from Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins that an assistant planner should be employed by July 1. This person will head the downtown revitalization efforts presented in the Hyett/Palma study.

Wiggins said progress is being made at 110 E. Center St.

• Approved lowering the rental fee for weddings in the Biblical Gardens from $250 to $100. Lock had already quoted the lower price to one couple who inquired about the space. A new set of leasing guidelines and pricing structure is to be formulated.

• Approved additional hours for administrative assistant Kara Bragg of an amount not to exceed payroll funds of $600.

• Set the next meeting for June 12. [[In-content Ad]]
