More than 15 members of the Warsaw Community Development Corp. met Tuesday to discuss upcoming events and the current financial status of the organization.

Jay Baumgartner, WCDC representative from the Bowen Center, analyzed net income for each organizational branch, and reported a large increase in funds collected from the Biblical Gardens in 2005 compared to previous years.

Baumgartner called 2005 a "good year" financially but urged the organization to find ways of increasing revenues for WCDC operations.

Heeding Baumgartner's advice, Director Carmen Lock said she was currently collecting dues from all businesses involved in WCDC, which would generate income for its operating account.

Though membership was currently up, Lock said the finalized list of participants had yet to be determined for the year.

"If people don't pay their dues, they're coming off the membership list," Lock said. "That's just how it has to be."

Video and Sound Productions, Concepts in Stone, Street Level Artists and the Hand Family Foundation were reported as new members for the year.

In other matters, Lock presented the board with information on an upcoming Cupid Care Package event that many downtown businesses plan to participate in.

Registration cards and collection bins will be placed throughout the downtown area for a raffle that will award one winner with a Valentine's Day gift basket full of items donated from local businesses.

Lock also discussed a light display situation the downtown area currently faces. After residents requested Christmas light displays be left up year-round during a Board of Works and Public Safety meeting, city officials are contemplating the idea and a decision will be made at an upcoming BOW meeting.

The board also:

• Discussed the appointment of new members to the WCDC board of directors. President Clint Pletcher said four to five new members could be added, and asked for recommendations from current members.

• Heard a report from Jon Garber on the present state of the Biblical Gardens. Garber said the garden's fountain would need to be repainted during the spring.

• Heard from Pletcher that no revolving loan activity took place over the last two months. Pletcher said the inactivity was not unusual for this time of year, and expected applications to be submitted by March.

The next board meeting is Feb. 21 at the WCDC office. [[In-content Ad]]
