Planning is underway for Warsaw's Downtown Spooktakular event and volunteers are still needed.
That is what Carmen Lock, executive director of the Warsaw Community Development Corporation reported at the corporation's board of directors meeting Tuesday.
The event will be held Oct. 27 in downtown Warsaw and feature trick-or-treating and a costume contest for children 12 years old and younger.
The Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club and National City Bank already have donated funds toward the event.
It is sponsored by Miller's Merry Manor, the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club, Zimmer, National City Bank, Warsaw Community Development Corporation and downtown merchants.
Volunteers are still needed for sponsorship of the tent where the costume judging will take place. They also are needed for registration and costume judging and small prize donations are needed.
"We could not have this safe Halloween event without the help of merchants and other people who will turn out and help hand out candy that we know is safe for our children," Lock said.
Lock gave business owners who attended the meeting event flyers to post on business doors.
Lock also announced during the meeting that WCDC has a new Web site layout and broadband.
The corporation hired Vision It Now, Warsaw, to update the site, displaying board members and WCDC membership business contact links.
Lock also said the site will have photos of buildings that have been renovated in the town.
Representatives from Vision It Now and Network Solutions will attend the WCDC's meeting in October to explain how the computer system works.
WCDC President Clint Pletcher presented the corporation with financial statements as of Aug. 31. Total assets include $856,956.99
He also said the finance committee will meet next month to discuss WCDC budgets for 2007.
Parks Director Jon Garber informed the corporation 40 people attended a tour of the Biblical Gardens last week and tables have been fixed at the garden.
A Botanical Endowment Fund has been established and the funds in the account are restricted to tree and plant replacement.
WCDC member Andy Garrett informed the corporation that he has received complaints of weeds growing outside downtown businesses in Warsaw. He said he will spray weeds to improve the appearance of the downtown area.
Businesses and individuals wishing to volunteer for the downtown spooktakular event may call Lock at 574-267-6419.
WCDC will meet again Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. at the WCDC building. [[In-content Ad]]
