A downtown farmer's market and Lincoln Highway garage sales are some of the events planned in Warsaw this summer.

Warsaw Community Development Corp. Board of Directors discussed the events during Tuesday's meeting.

A downtown farmer's market will be held beginning June 2. It will be open on the first and third Saturdays of the month from June through October from 7 a.m. to noon.

The market will be held in the city parking lot in the 200 block of South Buffalo Street.

The Downtown Farmers Market Committee will hold an informational meeting for prospective vendors Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the WCDC office, 117 W. Center St., Warsaw. Any person interested in having a booth at the market is encouraged to attend the meeting.

The Lincoln Highway garage sales will be Aug. 11.

The board also approved Warsaw Park Department employees to take down holiday decorative lights from trees downtown during non-winter months.

WCDC President Clint Pletcher said keeping the lights and cords wrapped around trees during the summer months is not good for the trees' growth process.

Mayor Ernie Wiggins said he felt it was in the city's best interest to remove the lights during the summer months so the downtown trees don't become damaged.

Park Superintendent Jon Garber gave an update on the Biblical Gardens, and said there have been 17 tours scheduled at the garden this summer.

The board approved Warsaw resident Kayla Graff to serve as summer help to assist WCDC Executive Director Carmen Lock with office duties.
