Wayne Dwight Yant, 81, of the Claypool area, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at 2:58 p.m. Aug. 29, 2010, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, after a short illness.

He was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Collins, to Millard B. and Violet A. Zorger Yant. On June 4, 1949, in Claypool, he married Betty Louise Ransbottom, who died March 24, 1998.

A lifetime Claypool area resident, he was a retired farmer and was fondly remembered for his unique crops such as onion fields and mint distilling along with his grain production. He was a 1946 Claypool High School graduate and a member of Claypool United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters: Connie (and spouse Steve) Berger, Wallingford, Vt.; LaDonna Petro, Winona Lake; and Jennifer (and spouse David) Klein, Lake George, N.Y.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve (and spouse Ronald) Metzger, Warsaw; and a brother, Edward M. Yant, Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Tom Ream of First United Methodist Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
