Wawasee Tennis Earns First NLC Win, Beats NorthWood

NAPPANEE – Wawasee swept all three singles matches to secure its first Northern Lakes Conference win in its last attempt, 3-2 over NorthWood at the Panthers’ courts Monday evening.
Nathan Perek at No. 3 singles needed three sets to take down Nate Nunemaker 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to swing the match the Warriors’ way. Nate Haines lost just two games in a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, and Cal Heinisch won in stright sets at No. 2 singles.
The Warriors take a 5-9 record, and 1-6 in the NLC, into the conference tournament that begins Wednesday in Warsaw.

The Warsaw Tigers got wins at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles in a 3-2 loss to Concord in the Northern Lakes Conference finale for the Tigers.
The doubles team of Hayden Stiger and Hudson Snyder needed three sets to beat Concord’s Braden Fish and Jake Lovette 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Andrew Gauger lost just two games in his straight-set win over Nate Slabach.
The Tigers start the NLC Conference Championships Wednesday night at home.

Neither Max Karg at No. 1 singles nor the No. 1 doubles combination of Noah Cain and Matthew Pegg lost a game in their straight-set wins. Heath Dierks and Luke Donathan beat the Eagles’ Tyler Coyle and Braden Baker 6-3, 6-0 to secure the win for the Squires.
Now 7-4 overall, the Squires will host Triton this afternoon and Tippecanoe Valley on Thursday.

After dropping a closely-contested first set, Manchester was swept 27-25, 25-19 and 25-18 by Rochester in Three Rivers Conference play Monday.
Kendra Binkley had 10 kills and four digs for the Lady Squires. Kendra Auler had 14 assists and Cierra Carter 15 digs for Manchester.
The junior varsity team won in straight sets, 25-24, 25-15.
The Lady Squires travel to Bunker Hill to take on Maconaquah on Thursday.

Monday in Fort Wayne
Elizabeth Van Wormer had a hat trick and added two assists to lead Warsaw to an 8-0 rout of Fort Wayne Snider Monday. The Lady Tigers remain unbeaten at 12-0 on the season.
Van Wormer had her three goals and both assists by the 31st minute of the game, helping the Lady Tigers establish a 5-0 lead at intermission. Anna Grill and Julie Frazzetta were the goal scorers on Van Wormer’s assists.
Sydney Weideman scored an unassisted goal to open the second-half scoring, and Mariah Rivera scored on an assist from Brenna Shipley in the 66th minute. Five minutes later, Alexis Myers closed out the scoring on a pass from Sarah Meade.
Rachel McClelleand was credited with three saves in goal, and Katiana Rodriguez made her varsity debut in goal for the Lady Tigers.
“Tonight was an impressive effort from the Lady Tigers,” said Warsaw head coach Peter Lucht. “The defense held firm, was organized and disciplined, and worked well as a unit to shut out a physical Snider team.
“The midfield battled hard throughout the evening, wining balls and distributing them well to the dangerous runs of the forwards. The overall work rate was fantastic. The teamwork was top-notch. Girls made runs for each other and were rewarded with excellent passes.”
The Warsaw junior varsity dropped a 3-0 decision to Snider.
Next up for the Lady Tigers is a Northern Lakes Conference match with Wawasee in Syracuse at 10 a.m. Saturday.
