Wawasee Students Excel In Financial Literacy

SYRACUSE - During the fall trimester at Wawasee High School, juniors and seniors in Trish Miller's personal finance course participated in the U.S. Department of the Treasury's fall 2008 National Financial Literacy Challenge, an initiative recommended by the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy.[[In-content Ad]]The Challenge was taken by more than 75,000 high school students. Participants included students in rural areas, suburbs, cities in this country and in Department of Defense schools around the world. The national average was 52 percent.

Wawasee High School senior David Grossman scored in the top 1 percent and will receive the National Financial Literacy Award medal by mail. In addition, 28 students from Wawasee scored in the top 25th percentile and received certificates.

Personal finance is a business course offered to juniors and seniors to teach financial planning, income and asset protection, money management and spending/credit management.

Students who scored in the top 25th percentile are Kirstie Conley, Samantha Coomer, Ashley Delucenay, Cody Denton, Zach Ducey, Thomas Eisenhour, Paige Geer, Krista Hoover, Davin Kitson, Stephanie Kuhn, Rachael Larson, Cameron Lowe, Meghan McDaniel, Skyler Miller, Ethan Miller, Adam Moss, Chelsie Oesch, Steven Phillips, Thea Sainer, Kayla Sexton, Nicole Smoker, Christine Todd, Chelsia Wallace, Nathan Whetten, Kayla Wray, Kailey Antonides, Krista Bomman and Evie Champoux.

Warsaw Gets Past Goshen On Penalty Kicks, Advances
A September match between the Warsaw and Goshen girls soccer teams resulted in a 1-1 tie after a hard-fought match. Tuesday night, the two teams met for a second time on a much bigger stage: the opening round of the 3A girls soccer sectional tournament at Elkhart High School. With a winner having to emerge this time around, it came down to penalty kicks, with the Lady Tigers winning 5-3 after a 0-0 tie.
