Wawasee Receives Bomb Threat

SYRACUSE - Despite a bomb threat Friday, Wawasee High School was in session today.

K-9 units from Syracuse Police Department and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department began searching the school at 5:30 a.m. today and were at the school until after 10 a.m.

Security was tightened after a hand-written message was found in a bathroom stall. The message talked about a bomb threat taking place at the school today.

A note was sent home to parents on Friday concerning the threat.

Officers will be present at the school during the day.

Because of the threat, students were not allowed inside the building until 7:15 a.m. Everyone had to enter through the front door, and all bags were searched upon entry.

REMC Reports Power Outage

A problem at a NIPSCO substation at approximately 8:15 a.m. today knocked Kosciusko REMC's Claypool meter point out of service. This has caused a power outage for approximately 1,250 KREMC members. Efforts are underway to switch these members to other power sources, and KREMC crews will continue these efforts until the NIPSCO outage can be restored.
