Wawasee Moves Closer To First NLC Softball Title With Win

GOSHEN – Wawasee’s softball team moved a step closer to its first ever Northern Lakes Conference title with a 3-0 win over Goshen Monday night.
Meghan Fretz pitched all seven innings, needing just 85 pitches to get the shutout. She allowed just three hits while striking out 10. Fretz, Kylee Rostochak and Allissa Flores scored runs for the Lady Warriors.
The team will try to wrap up the title when they host Concord Wednesday afternoon.

Monday in South Whitley
Aly Nicodemus was the winning pitcher for Whitko in its 11-1, five-inning win over Southwood. Nicodemus struck out five in the game. Haley Yohe, Kennedy Krull, Hanna Yohe, Emily Day, Maddie Gawthrop, and Riley Insley all had hits for the Lady Wildcats.
After Southwood scored in the top of the first, Whitko answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Wildcats would score in all five innings played.
Whitko is back in action in their last home game against Lakeland this afternoon.

Abby Bretten had four hits, including two doubles, scored three runs and drove in three in Tippecanoe Valley’s 22-13 home loss to Northfield.
Kaitlyn Ott and Katie Prater had two hits each, and Katie Gunter scored twice for the Lady Vikings.
Down 10-3 after the top of the fourth, the Lady Vikings scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, and took a 13-12 lead after scoring three more in the fifth.

Whitko wraps up Three Rivers Conference play Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Tippecanoe Valley.

Getting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, Triton edged Peru 3-2 in a rain and darkness shortened match. Where a third set would have been necessary, both teams agreed to play a super tiebreaker rather than risk not completing the matches.
Triton’s Kaelyn Mason won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0, and Shayla May won her tiebreaker 11-9 to get the win. Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross got a straight set win at No. 2 doubles.
The Lady Trojans completed its regular season 12-1, and open sectional play against LaVille at Bremen on Wednesday.

The team has a first-round bye in the sectional, and will play the Southwood/Northfield winner in Peru at 5:00 Thursday.
