Wawasee Looks At Istep Results

SYRACUSE - Dr. Robert Cockburn presented the Wawasee School Board Tuesday with statistical information concerning the Fall 2008 ISTEP+ results.

"Overall, the total percentage of Wawasee students passing stayed at 80 percent," Cockburn said. "The state score was kept constant and our scores are shown as the difference between the percent of all Indiana students passing and the percent of Wawasee students passing. Ninth grade did not take the ISTEP this year, as it is now being replaced with the End of Course testing process."[[In-content Ad]]Medium pass rates, grades 3 through 10, for English/language arts is 71 percent, and 74 percent for mathematics in the same grades. Fifth and seventh grades have a 60 percent pass rate in science.

The school board began their monthly meeting with a flag presentation.

The American flag presented came from 1983 Wawasee High School graduate Shaun Shanahan.

The certificate that accompanied the flag stated, in part, that the flag was presented to WHS by " ... officers, NCOs and soldiers of Coalition Joint Task Force Scorpion ... flown over Q-West base Complex at Al Qayyara during Operation Iraqi Freedom on Sept. 11, 2008 ... in honor of the Class of 1983."

The school will eventually purchase a proper display case for the flag.

In personnel matters, the board approved the employment of Mariah Roberts as a temporary part-time family and consumer sciences teacher at Wawasee High School, and Linda Rondeau as a Title 1/special needs paraprofessional at North Webster.

Janie Leach has submitted her resignation as a family and consumer sciences teacher; Brenda Ross has resigned as a Title 1 paraprofessional at North Webster; and Apryl Harris has resigned as a paraprofessional at North Webster. The board also granted a leave request for Heather Clevenger, from Jan. 5 through Feb. 17.

The board approved the appointment of Eleanor Hooker to the North Webster Library Board.

In financial matters, the board accepted the following donations for the Milford School: $300 from The Papers; $500 from Maple Leaf Farms; CBC, $200; Milford PTO, $250; and Milford Life, $300.

The board approved a 2-percent pay increase for 2008-2009 for teachers and support staff.

The tax anticipation warrants rollover program was approved. This rolls loans over until such time as tax monies are available.

The financial report for the month ending Nov. 30 is as follows:

Beginning balance, $21,306,571.0.

Receipts, $1,620,413.62.

Disbursements, $6,506,002.31

End balance $16,420,982.38.

In other business:

n The board approved Performance Services Inc. as energy-saving consultants.

n Approved the AP history trip in May to Philadelphia (second choice is Chicago).

n Approved a new course, Advanced Life Sciences - Plant and Soil, to be taught as part of the Ag program. This course replaces Advanced Biology.

Wawasee Community School Corp. board members are George Gilbert, Dallas Winchester, Becky Linnemeier, Mike Wilson and Mary Louise Dixon.
