Wawasee Looks At $47.9M Budget

The total budget estimate is $47,911,069. That includes $25,077,027 for the general fund; $6,196,322 for debt service; $8,054,400 for capital projects; $2,998,120 for transportation; $585,200 for bus replacement; and $5 million for the rainy day fund.
Superintendent Tom Edington said that all the funds are capped.
The board anticipates replacing six buses in 2015. Long term projections are for five bus replacements every year for the following 11 years.
The budget will be advertised Aug. 13 and again 10 days later. The public hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 in the high school’s Warrior Room.
Also Tuesday, the board approved the resignations of Amy Sider, Wawasee Middle School math teacher; Nathan O’Connell, Wawasee High School math teacher; and Emily Gough, high school science teacher. They approved hiring Deborah Gaby as the corporation literacy coach; the transfer of Danielle Hartzell from North Webster Elementary to Milford School as a leveled literacy interventionist; and granted Brittany Gummere, third grade teacher at North Webster, a leave of absence until Jan. 5.
They also hired Gabe Fitzsimmons as a fourth grade teacher at North Webster; and at the high school, Danielle Dabler to teach chemistry, Elizabeth Long to teach business and Jeremy VanLue as the radio/TV instructor/AV specialist/computer tech.
The board also approved the following support staff changes:
• The retirement of Mary Jane Ploszek, receptionist at the high school.
• The hiring of Sarah Hite as Milford school nurse and Kelsey McAdams as the NWE nurse.
• Hiring Susan Slabaugh as cafeteria worker at Syracuse Elementary.
• The hiring of Tara Manning as secretary at WMS.
• The transfer of Leslie Jackson from the secretary position at WMS to high school athletic secretary.
• The hiring of Stephanie Brown as Milford Title 1 paraprofessional.
• The hiring of new bus drivers Christie Davenport and Cyndi Routh.[[In-content Ad]]
