Aubrey Coy's performance in the last individual race of the meet, the 3200 run, was indicative of the way it went between Wawasee and Warsaw - Coy was out in front early, never was threatened and cruised to an easy win.

Coy lapped two of her three competitors in the eight-lap event and put a big exclamation mark in the Warriors' 88-35 win Thursday at Fisher Field.

"Aubrey ran all by herself (out in front) and still ran well," Wawasee coach Lisa Dilbone said of Coy's 12:03 performance. "She is improving a lot this season."

Wawasee won all but two events in running its record to 8-1 heading into Tuesday's Northern Lakes Conference meet at Northridge. The Warriors are the defending conference champions.

"Tonight what we wanted to do was put them in events that they will be running in the NLC just so they get the feel of the order of things and what they are going to be expected to do next," Dilbone said. "We also used this as kind of a workout too because it is probably the last good workout we will get before NLC."

The Warriors, having their 36-meet win streak snapped earlier this year, come into the NLC as a long shot to win another team title.

"I don't feel a lot of pressure because we aren't coming into this meet undefeated like we have in the past," Dilbone said. "I am just happy my injured people are finally back and doing a lot better."

Alysha Aalbregtse won the 100 and 300 hurdles in only her second meet running her best events since recovering from a hamstring injury.

"This is only the second time she has run the hurdles this year and dropped her time by a lot of seconds in both the 1's and 3's," Dilbone said. "I think she is a little more encouraged about NLCs. She should be able to place very high now."

Wawasee also got wins from Kris Reuter (100, 400), Alisha Henderson (1600), Katie McCauley (800), Mandy McGuire (high jump), Heather Long (discus), Katie Brown (long jump) and Sharada Nethaway (shot put).

Despite the 53-point loss, it was an improvement for the Tigers over last year against the Warriors.

"Last year in this meet, we scored 12 points," Warsaw coach Doug Ogle said. "We scored almost three times that this year and had some of our best performances. Our 4 x 100 had its best time of the year and Bobbi Wildman, who had been sick this week, won the 200. Our throwers had personal bests as well."

It was Wildman who single-handily got Warsaw its two wins as she rallied the Tigers to a win the 400 relay on the anchor leg and won the 200 dash.

"I am encouraged by tonight," Ogle said. "Wawasee has a lot of talent, and they are just good. I am hoping this can give us a springboard into the conference meet. When you've had a terrible regular season you try to salvage it with encouraging performances in the conference and the sectional and have something to build on."

Wawasee is at the Fort Wayne Concordia Relays Saturday, while Wawasee and Warsaw both have the NLC championships Tuesday at Northridge.
