All construction projects that the corporation has undertaken during the summer break are either completed or close to completion, the board was told. The board also continued the lease agreement for the Head Start Program at North Webster.[[In-content Ad]]Approval was granted to submit applications for Renewable Energy Bonds, and the board is aware that this process can take some time.
The school corporation made a $3,000 donation to the Teen Parents Succeeding Program. This program is privately funded, with support coming from several sources, along with the school corporation.
First reading was conducted of a board policy revision that provides authority for suspension and expulsion of students.
The policy revision is extensive and covers not only behavior before and during class time, but also states, "... a student may be suspended or expelled for engaging in unlawful activity on or off school grounds if the unlawful activity may reasonably by considered to be an interference with school purposes or an educational function ..."
The revision also states, "Any student who brings a firearm ... or a destructive device ... to school or onto school property ... shall be expelled..." Similar language also includes a provision for carrying a "deadly weapon" onto school property.
While this was the first reading of the policy revision, no problem was seen with its inclusion into official board policy.
In personnel matters, the board approved the following individuals for employment with the corporation: Shellie Miller, North Webster summer school instructor; Heidi Shock, temporary half-time first-grade teacher and half-time reading interventionist, Milford.
