SYRACUSE – Lake patrol officers had to chase a boat driver across Lake Wawasee Monday evening.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officer Dan Rice notified the KCSD that a boat was fleeing from him at 8:46 p.m. Rice was attempting to stop the boat to determine if it was the same boat that had struck a swim raft earlier that day. When KCSD officers arrived, the suspect in the purple 2014 Super Nautique ski boat and Rice were at the pier at 6632 E. Waco Drive.
The driver of the Super Nautique, Patrick Cochran, 20, Springfield, Ohio, was residing at his family’s lake house on Waco Drive. According to the incident report provided by KCSD, Cochran refused to talk to an officer and attempted to contact his father. KCSD Sgt. Jon Tyler then placed Cochran, who he described as “belligerent, disrespectful and loud,” in handcuffs.
Rice told Tyler that Cochran had refused to stay after he was pulled over on the lake. Cochran allegedly started the boat and fled across the lake while Rice was attempting to speak to him. Rice pursued Cochran’s boat back to his pier.
Cochran told the officers that he did not think Rice was a real officer. Cochran was then administered field sobriety tests, which he failed. He would not submit to a breathalyzer test.
Tyler put Cochran in the backseat of his patrol vehicle. Cochran managed to remove his handcuffs and exited the vehicle. The officers restrained him, while his mother attempted to interject and had to be removed. Cochran was placed back into the car with handcuffs. When Tyler was ready to leave, Cochran again took the handcuffs off and exited the vehicle.
Additional units from Syracuse and North Webster police departments arrived at this time. Cochran was placed in a vehicle with a cage and taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital in handcuffs and ankle shackles. Cochran initially refused to provide a blood sample. Officers obtained a search warrant for Cochran’s blood.
Cochran was then booked into Kosciusko County Jail, charged for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, resisting law enforcement and refusing to submit to a chemical test on a $5,250 bond.[[In-content Ad]]

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
