The exception was approved for the multi-family residential development on the west side of Sheldon Road, 500 feet north of CR 300N, Warsaw.
Warsaw Plan Commission will still need to approve the development plan, according to Warsaw City Planner Jeremy Skinner.
The proposal is to develop a 12-unit apartment building, and 30 villas that will be rented by the community.
The proposal also is for a community building to be built at the east end of the property to be used by those who rent the apartments and villas. Plans also are for interior roadways to be developed as well as a trail and gazebo.
Steve Snyder, attorney representing the development, spoke in support of the development Monday night.
He said there are existing apartments to the south of the proposed project, and single-family residences to the north that the project would fit in with.
Cory Collins, representing project developer Miami Farms, said Construction Management and Design Inc., Plymouth, will be the general contractor for the project.
Board member Bruce Woodward said he supported the special exception.
“This is an appropriate use for the property in my mind,” Woodward said.
Also during the meeting, Woodward announced he is resigning as a board member and Monday night was his last meeting.
Woodward, who was appointed by the city council to serve in 1997, said he will submit his letter of resignation to Warsaw City Council Tuesday night.
Woodward said he is resigning from the board because he plans to move his residence outside the Warsaw city limits into the county.
In order to serve on the board, a member must be a resident of the city.
Board president Tom Allen thanked Woodward for his service.[[In-content Ad]]
