Warsaw Wrestlers Fall

MISHAWAKA -ÊThe season record for the Tiger wrestlers fell to 5-14, after five losses at the Penn Super Duals, a gathering of perennial powerhouses.

Also Jacob Boots (275 pounds) suffered his first loss in a close battle against Penn's Tom Bemenderfer.

Penn

In the 66-8 loss to Penn the Tigers managed only two victories, with Chris Elvidge (135) notching a 15-0 tech fall against Mitch Miller, and Blake Deaton (145) recording an 11-8 decision against Alex Lee. The rest of the Tigers were victims of pins, except Troy Miller (189) and Jacob Boots (275). Miller moved up a weight class and was edged by Jon Berg, 10-9, while Boots was barely out-pointed 5-4 by nemesis Tom Bemenderfer.

Griffith

With three wrestlers ranked number one in the state, Griffith went undefeated on the day, beating Warsaw 60-21. Every contest was decided by a fall, except the 8-3 victory by Jacob Boots over Aaron Cavazos. Evan Readle (171) surprised Anthony Lopez, nailing him in the final second of the match, at 5:59. Troy Miller (189) also won by fall, pinning Nick Lam-Chi in 30 seconds.

Jimtown

Wrestling against Jimtown, Evan Readle got another win, pinning James Byers with one second remaining in period one, at 1:59. Blake Deaton (145) also tallied a pin, putting Jeff Roberts to his back in 3:29. Troy Miller pinned Jason Jacobs in 1:08, but the Tigers lost as a team, 52-24.

Portage Central

Warsaw lost to Portage Central by a score of 59-24, a score padded by the fact that the Tigers gave up three forfeits in every dual competition. Chris Elvidge (135) won by pinning Neal Oliver in 1:12, while Joel Perry (160) pinned Matt Rathburn in fifty-eight seconds and Justin Burgess (215) put away Kyle Marks in 3:36. Jacob Boots conducted a takedown clinic, recording thirteen of them against Andy Thomas in a 26-11 technical fall.

NorthWood

The meeting with Northern Lakes Conference foe NorthWood was a pin party. Every contest was decided by a fall with the exception of a major decision garnered by Chris Elvidge, when he outscored Adam Jenkins 14-6. Jacob Boots grabbed the lone pin for the Tigers, dispatching Tony Lopez in 46 seconds.

Warsaw now falls to 0-4 in the conference and 5-14 overall. Next up for the team is the major individual tournament of north central Indiana, the Al Smith Invitational, at Mishawaka on December 30-31.
