NAPPANEE - Warsaw's varsity boys track team is to the NLC what the Chicago Bulls were to the NBA through much of the 1990s - totally dominant.

The Bulls won six championhips in eight years. Warsaw's track team hasn't lost a regular season meet in three years.

After starting the season with a win at Columbia City, the Tigers rolled to victory Tuesday in a three-way Northern Lakes Conference meet at NorthWood. Warsaw finished with a team score of 100, while the host Panthers and Northridge each scored 32.

"We were fortunate tonight to have good weather, and we came out strong in our first meet after spring break," fifth-year Warsaw coach Troy Akers. "Now we can get to work."

The Tigers took first-place finishes in 12 of last night's 16 events, including four firsts in five field events.

Tiger senior Jarod Leasure won the discus event with a throw of 152-10. Classmate Ryan Brennan, who competed despite an ankle injury suffered playing basketball over spring break, was third with a throw of 134-2. NorthWood's Abe Almager was fourth, throwing 133-8 1/2.

"We've got two kids (Leasure, Brennan) that can throw in the 160s consistantly," Warsaw throwing coach Gary Fribley said. "It's gonna take 160 to get out of the regional. We finally had Ryan healthy and throwing the way we wanted him to and then he got hurt. He needs to get his priorities straight."

The Tigers placed two in the shot put as well. Leasure finished third with a 44-foot effort, while Brent Satterly was second with a put of 47-7. Satterly was sitting in second place in the finals when he landed his final throw of 47-7 to put him in the lead. Northridge's Eaton, then retook the lead with an effort of 48-4.

"Brent did what he had to do," Fribley said. "He came back and made that kid beat him."

The Tigers dominated the hurdle events, with Ryan Hill and Chris Hill taking first and second in the 110 hurdles with times of :15.39 and :16.69, respectively. Grady Randall won the 300 hurdles for the Tigers with a time of :43.06, while Chris Hill was second.

NorthWood's two first-place finishes came from Scott Hill, who won the 100 with a time of :11.41 and the 200 with a time of :23.23.

Also taking individual first-place finishes for Warsaw were Jon Dock (1600, 4:44), Adam Sisson (800, :52.53), Rob Peters (800, 2:07), Arnell Frantz (high jump, 6-2), Cory Gackenheimer (pole vault, 12-6) and Adam Bott (long jump, 20-10).

"I could mention a lot of names, but Arnell Frantz really had a great night," Akers said. "I think his best jump last year was 5-8, tonight he won the high jump with a 6-2. He's really been working hard."

To go with their 12 firsts, the Tigers also took second in 10 of the 16 events.

Junior Brad Seiss was second in the high jump (5-10) and 200 (:23.36), while senior Jake Sweatland was second in the 1600 (4:46) and 3200 (10:39). Freshman Kyle Boley was second in the pole vault with an effort of 10 feet.

Warsaw will be in action again Saturday in the North Side Invitational in Fort Wayne. NorthWood will compete Tuesday at Goshen in a three-way NLC meet with Wawasee and the host Redskins.
