A survey has been created that is available at the city’s website at warsaw.in.gov
During Monday night’s Warsaw City Council meeting, Warsaw City Councilwoman Cindy Dobbins said the city has received 300 surveys back and are still seeking input.
“We are gathering information right now and are encouraging people to go online and fill out the parking survey,” Dobbins said.
A public meeting was last week where residents had the opportunity to share their concerns and opinions on downtown parking.
The city is working with Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission to develop a comprehensive downtown parking plan.
Dobbins said during last week’s parking meeting, the main comments were that parking needs to be convenient and affordable for customers if the city wants to keep the downtown vibrant and active.
Councilwoman Diane Quance also said there were comments about accessibility for people to park with small children in the car, and for the handicapped.
Thallemer said each city council member is on a committee, and as parking data is gathered the city will look at on-street and off-street parking policies and financing.
Thallemer said the goal is for the city to have a recommendation back to the traffic commission in September on parking.
Thallemer said the farmers market had its grand opening Saturday in the downtown that went well with 12 to 13 booths. Plans are for the market to expand.
