Warsaw Community School Board of Trustees Monday approved Performance Services, Indianapolis, as the design build contractor for the new Lincoln Elementary School and Edgewood and Washington renovations.
Dan Metzger, board member, made the motion, seconded by Randy Polston.
Jerry Rolfson, Performance Services, said the company is honored to have been selected. He said a design finalization will need to be completed.
Anticipated construction on Lincoln Elementary is slated to begin in December, and the school should be ready for use in 2017.
Project requirements were derived from community, staff and stakeholder input. The bidding design build firms met with advisory councils, city officials and technical review committees multiple times to refine and review plans prior to final submission.
Edgewood Middle School upgrades will be reconfiguration of classroom space and mechanical system upgrades. Upgrades will begin in January and end in fall of next year.
Washington STEM Academy wil have a complete HVAC upgrade. Upgrades will begin in January and be completed in August.
Dr. David Hoffert, Warsaw Community Schools superintendent, said Performance Services was determined to be the best value provider for the project by the technical review committee.
Metzger said the board and committees have spent countless hours on the design build process.
“There has been a lot of hard work put into this,” Metzger said.
Hoffert thanked the board and committees for their work on the project.
“It took hundreds of hours and we made sure the process was open and transparent and has the students’ best interest in mind,” Hoffert said.
The best value was determined by selecting the design build firm with a combination of the best design as defined by the specifications and price, according to a press release provided by WCS. The project considered safety and security, traffic patterns and structural integrity.
“We are grateful to start moving forward,” Hoffert said.
Hoffert also informed the board that Thursday and Friday is fall break.
In other business, the board approved its 2016 budget and Jill Beehler to continue to serve as a school representative on Warsaw Community Library Board of Trustees.
The board heard details of Lakeview Middle School’s involvement in Feed My Starving Children. This was an effort last week to send food to starving children in Honduras, Haiti and Uganda.
Students at Lakeview participated in a “Jar Wars” project and collected $2,110.06 for Feed My Starving Children to feed 79 children for year. More than 1 million meals were packed.
“Thanks for your leadership, and we appreciate the students who participated,” said Jennifer Tandy, school board president.[[In-content Ad]]
