The Warsaw Community Schools board of trustees was the first group to get a tour of the community’s new STEM bus Tuesday afternoon.
The bus will travel to Harrison Elementary School Monday morning for its first preview. There will be a ribbon cutting for the bus Tuesday around 11 a.m.
The bus features new technology, including touch screen televisions, iPads and up-to-date scientific tools for elementary students to learn with. All lessons planned for the bus will be unique to Warsaw and the board said all teachers at all eight elementary schools will eventually be trained on using the bus.
The board said the mobile unit will be a tool for teachers to help students learn with, and the lessons learned on the bus can be taken back to the classroom.
In other news, the school board also discussed the purchase of six new replacement buses – five conventional buses and one special needs bus. The 2015 model buses will be purchased from Kerlin Motor Co.
The board also discussed:
• New hirings and resignations
• A Title III grant application that will be used as supplemental funding for English language learners has been sent back to the board for revision
• A Title II grant application that will be used for  WCS staff professional development has been submitted
• The acceptance of a DEKKO Foundation donation in the amount of $28,000 for a 2014-2015 Arts Partnership.
