Warsaw School Board Approves Pay Increases For Non-Teacher Staff

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

Warsaw School Board Monday night approved salary and wage increases recommended by Chief Financial Officer Kevin Scott.
The hikes are part of the wage study Warsaw Community Schools underwent over the last couple years.
A new master contract for teachers was approved in September. The action Monday was to adjust salaries and wage rates for all remaining employees.
Salary adjustments are generally aligned with those received by the teaching staff. Hourly rates are a combination of an inflation increase coupled with year two of the market rate adjustments that were initiated in 2012. Recommended increases are supported by WCS’s budget capacity, which includes growing revenues, Scott indicated.
The total for the increases on an annual basis for the hourly staff is $356,238; special services, $61,923; and $108,764 for administrative staff. The increases are for 2013-14 for staff on contract, and start in January for hourly staff.
Also during the meeting, in his monthly report, Superintendent Dr. Craig Hintz reported the school corporation received letter grades for its school and the corporation from the Indiana Department of Education. The grades are embargoed in order for the district to review the grades and appeal if necessary.
“I believe our community will be very pleased with the grades,” Hintz said.
Chief Accountability Officer Amy Sivley said she heard the embargo will be lifted by the IDOE either after the state school board meets in December or in January.
In other business, the school board:
• Heard enrollment for November was at 7,209, up from 7,074 students one year ago.
• Was reminded its next work session is at 4 p.m. Dec. 10, and next regular meeting is at 7 p.m. Dec. 16, both at the central administration building.
• Heard the Warsaw Community High School Counseling Department was awarded the Indiana Gold Star School Counseling Award, sponsored by the Indiana Achievement Institute.
• Heard Lakeview and Edgewood middle schools raised $600 for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund during its Pink Out Night.
• Approved a donation of $1,500 from Church of the Good Shepherd to Jefferson Elementary. The money will be used for eye, dentist or doctor appointments for families who can’t otherwise afford them, or for winter attire.
• Approved the $50,000 Indiana Secured School Safety Grant as presented by Director of Maintenance Greg Schroeder at the board’s work session Nov. 19.[[In-content Ad]]
