Warsaw Plays Host To Area Mayors
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins hosted a Mayor's Roundtable at the Fireman's Building Thursday.
The Roundtable, an idea generated by the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, meets each month to share ideas and information, learn about current issues and compare solutions to common problems.
Four regions - northern, north central, south central and southern - group mayors by geography and form an alliance in which common goals are met.
Roundtables meet on the third Thursday of the month.
The northern region Roundtable president is Mayor James Yeazel of Plymouth; vice president is Mayor Ron Glassley of Columbia City; and secretary-treasurer is New Haven Mayor Terry McDonald.
Associate members are welcome to attend the meetings too.
IACT Deputy Director of Member Services Andrea Johnson addressed the group, saying several newly elected officials workshops will be held in each region. The primary election seated 62 (out of 117) new mayors, most without public service experience.
She updated the group on changes to the IACT legislative committee, saying the group will hold meetings in four regions so members won't have to travel as much.
Members are expected to lobby legislators when they're home on weekends.
Following the luncheon, Warsaw city planner Jeff Noffsinger gave a presentation on the city's current greenway and upcoming expansion.
He featured photos of the Beyer Farm Trail's construction and grand opening last July.
The greenway has been funded with state grants and local donations. Noffsinger said the path, beginning at the Chinworth Bridge and running east into Warsaw, will be under construction in the spring.
The planned trail in Winona Lake also was part of the presentation.
Roundtable members were invited to walk the Beyer Farm Trail when the meeting ended. The western entrance to the trail begins outside the Fireman's Building. [[In-content Ad]]
