The next step to bringing Meijer to Warsaw is Warsaw Plan Commission reviewing a rezoning and development plan at its meeting this month.

The plan commission will review the proposal at its March 14 meeting at 7 p.m. at city hall, Warsaw City Planner Jeremy Skinner said during Wednesday's Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission meeting.

The commission will then provide a recommendation to Warsaw City Council for the plan that it will review at its March 21 meeting at 7 p.m. at city hall.

Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission members Wednesday approved improvements to CR 200N to allow for a Meijer to be built at the southeast corner of CR 200N and U.S. 30.

Commissioner Jerry Patterson made the motion, and commissioner George Clemens seconded the motion. Commission members Kyle Babcock, Greg Schroeder, Kip Shuter, and Jeremy Skinner also voted in favor of the road improvements. Commission members Dan Robinson and Steve Foster were absent during Wednesday's meeting.

Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission heard from Lynn Richardson, Meijer real estate manager, and Michael Diamente, Abonmarche engineering consultant, Wednesday regarding improvements to CR 200N.

The new traffic plan includes the widening of CR 200N from Biomet Drive to U.S. 30 and includes a designated left-turn lane, Diamente said.

On the Anchorage Road side, the road also will be widened for a right-only turn lane for those approaching U.S. 30.

Meijer also will make improvements to Anchorage Road at Ind. 15. There will be restriping for a left-turn lane and signal changes that will go along with traffic lights at Anchorage Road and U.S. 30.

Meijer also will lengthen the westbound turn lane on U.S. 30 at CR 200N and construct a right-turn only lane on eastbound U.S. 30.

The traffic commission, at its Feb. 9 meeting, approved a Meijer traffic impact study contingent on Meijer providing the city with a proposal for improvements to CR 200N that were not included in the study.

The commission, at the February meeting, approved alternate two of the study, which would require a new traffic light to be installed on U.S. 30.

The proposal also includes an entrance to the Meijer off of CR 200N and another off of U.S. 30.

Meijer would be required to lengthen the westbound left-turn lane on U.S. 30 at CR 200N, constructing a right-turn only entrance to the development from CR 200N.

They also are required to restripe the existing county road on the westbound approach to create a left-turn lane and a shared right-through lane.

Also during the meeting, Babcock asked if there were any other road projects besides Meijer coming up.

Skinner said work will be done on Detroit Street this summer.

He said Indiana American Water will use one of the northbound lanes to install a new water line. The work will be from June to August.

A lane restriction will be on the passing lane of northbound Ind. 15 from Fort Wayne Street and continue 2,200 feet to the north.

Skinner said when the water line installation occurs, Detroit Street will be reduced to one lane heading north.
