Warsaw Memorial Day Service Set At Oakwood Cemetery

Chief Petty Officer Conrad Forks, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, will be the featured speaker at the Memorial Day service in Warsaw.

The service will be Monday at Oakwood Cemetery.

The service is sponsored by the American Legion John C. Peterson Post 49, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 49 and American Legion Auxiliary.

A wreath will be placed at the War Memorial at Kosciusko County Courthouse at 10 a.m. Monday by the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 49.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Oakwood Cemetery bandstand with American Legion Commander Jim Smelser presiding.

Color guards and other organizational units are asked to assemble in front of the Oakwood Cemetery office at 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Warsaw Community High School Band will present music prior to and during the ceremony. People planning to attend are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.

Ceremonies will be held at the Grand Army of the Republic and American Legion Circles with the presentation of wreaths, 21-gun salute rendered by the firing squad and taps will be played following the program.

Rites have been held at Oakwood Cemetery for many years beginning with the Grand Army of the Republic circle honoring veterans of the Civil War.

Two Legion circles have been added over the years at the cemetery to provide interment for veterans who have honorably served in the Armed Forces. Development of a third circle in now underway in the cemetery.
