Stephen Blaine Vancuren, 53, of 723 S. Union St., Warsaw, was arrested at 4:21 p.m. Thursday for criminal recklessness and shooting a firearm into a dwelling. His bond was set at $10,250.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, on Thursday Warsaw Police Department officer Ryan Petty responded to a criminal recklessness incident behind the residence at 723 S. Union St., Warsaw.
Petty arrived and spoke with G & G Hauling and Excavating employees.
An employee said they were clearing the woods off the property at the end of Columbia and Godman Streets. He advised that he heard a loud noise that sounded like a tire blowing up or a shotgun being fire and felt something hit him on the shoulder.
The officer observed damage to a lift machine that appeared to have been caused by a buckshot. From the point of damage, there is a direct line of sight from the machine to the rear door of 723 S. Union St., Warsaw.
Warsaw Police Officer Justin Curtis located a clear plastic shotgun wadding at the back of the property in the direct line of sight with the machine where the employees were working.
Curtis went to the property and spoke with VanCuren, who was very upset about the subjects clearing the woods and said he could not sleep because of the machines.
He admitted he grabbed his black New England 20 gauge shotgun from his bedroom, went to his back door and shot one round of buckshot in the air toward the workers working in the woods. He advised he wanted the workers to stop cutting down the trees behind his residence.
Officers obtained consent from Vancuren and located the black shotgun inside the residence. Vancuren advised that the shotgun used to shoot into the woods.
