Last week, Warsaw police officer Justin Curtis saw a vehicle loaded with what he thought was an unreasonable amount of car parts and took action, resulting in an arrest for theft of scrap.
Perkins, 29, of 516 N. Cook St., Warsaw, was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing scrap brake rotors from his former employer, Warsaw Foundry, and selling them at Lewis Salvage, according to the probable cause affidavit provided by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office. Curtis identified the owner of the green Ford Explorer as Perkins’ girlfriend.
Later, police spoke with Lewis Salvage owner Cary Lewis, who said that Perkins had sold an excessive amount of brake rotors between Sept. 14 and Wednesday for $2,813.80.
Lewis called police on Thursday when Perkins was at Lewis Salvage to sell more brake rotors. When the arrived on the scene, police saw the same green Explorer. Officers matched casting numbers on the rotors with those at Warsaw Foundry. Lewis confirmed through Warsaw Foundry that the parts had been stolen.
Perkins was booked into Kosciusko County Jail with a $5,250 bond.[[In-content Ad]]
