PIERCETON – A Warsaw man was arrested Wednesday morning shortly after he allegedly robbed a Pierceton liquor store at knifepoint.
Jonathen R. Lovelace, 20, of 5297 S. Country Club Road, Warsaw, is charged with one count of robbery with a deadly weapon, a class B felony, and one count of theft, a class D felony, after a witness pointed police to his location.
Local law enforcement, including Pierceton, Winona Lake and Warsaw Police Departments, along with Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police, responded to Pierceton Discount Package Liquor, 101 S. First St., Wednesday at 11:37 a.m. after a 911 call of an armed robbery.
The clerk described to police a male subject wearing black clothing approached him with a knife and saying, “give me all your money and don’t be a hero,” according to the probable cause affidavit from the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office. The robber made away with approximately $350 in cash.
A witness saw someone who fit Lovelace’s description flee the scene and pointed them to a residence where Lovelace had been seen in the past.
Officers then went to 102 S. Seventh St. and were granted permission to search the residence. Lovelace was found hiding in a bedroom closet underneath a bag of golf clubs. A subsequent search of the residence provided officers with additional evidence, including $299 on a shelf in the closet, linking Lovelace to the armed robbery.
Lovelace is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a prosecutorial hold without bond. The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office is also assisting with the ongoing investigation and arrest.
