Library Director Ann Zydek said the library has made progress with renovations in the last month.
"Progress on our entrance renovations is moving right along," she said.
The board reviewed a project report from WCPL facility manager Rick Ellsworth.
The report said the drive in front of the library has been removed, the support for the rotunda walkway has been framed, and the frame for the roof and overhang above the extended entrance has been built.
Zydek said wiring work is being completed to allow for three to five security cameras to be installed at the library entrance, and cement work on the entrance's exterior will begin this week.
D & C Construction, South Whitley, began the library's front entrance renovations April 9.
The approximate cost of the project is $150,000, and the project is expected to be completed by July.
The library entrance currently faces north and will be moved to the east and west sides of the building.
The front entrance and the drive-through area near the entrance will be closed until completion of the entire renovation. All patrons will enter and exit the building at the east entrance along Detroit Street.
The board also discussed adjusting library hours from Memorial to Labor Day, and will discuss the issue at a future meeting.
The board approved a cell phone usage policy for library patrons that requests users to not use marked quiet zone areas to talk on the phone, and recommends that cell phones be used in the library's entrance lobby area. Zydek said the zones will be determined and marked by library staff.
The policy also states if patrons receive cell phone calls when in the library, they should set their phones on vibrate.
Community Outreach Director Zach Doppelt presented the library's 2006 annual report to the board.
The report included collection, circulation and operation statistics for 2006.
The board also:
- Approved a policy that requires no immediate family member of a current employee to be considered for a position within the library.
If a relative relationship is established after employment, the individuals involved will decide who will leave the library's employment.
- Approved a library conduct policy written in Spanish.
- Approved a resolution to allow the library to advertise and promote its programs and services. The resolution allows, with prior written approval by the library board, claim payments for advertising expenses may be made in advance.[[In-content Ad]]
