A grand-opening ceremony was held before the Warsaw Community Public Library Board of Trustees meeting Monday. The library's outdoor bookdrop also opened Monday night.
"Our patrons have eagerly awaited the completion of the new front entrance, and we are excited to have completed an entrance that will be safer for our patrons," said WCPL Director Ann Zydek.
WCPL Board President Tony Etienne cut the ribbon during the ceremony attended by board members and library patrons.
"We are thankful for the work the library has done to see this project through and believe the new entrance will be an asset to our community," Etienne said.
The entrance opened Monday night after being closed since April 9.
D & C Construction, South Whitley, and Scearce Rudisel Architects worked on the project, which replaced aging stairs and the entrance to increase general patron safety and make future growth possible.
Zydek said non-slip granite steps in the entrance's interior will be safer for patrons. Automatic glass doors allow patrons to see traffic as they exit the library and walk on sidewalks before crossing the street to get to their vehicles.
Zydek said there also is an air curtain that allows patrons to feel heat as they come in the entrance in the winter and cold air in the summer.
The library entrance that once faced north has now been moved to the east and west sides of the building.
An emblem that says WCPL is engraved on the granite steps before patrons reach the stairway. A new steel staircase has been installed, and a metal roof for the entrance's exterior also has been installed.
The entrance was inspected and approved Aug. 10, Zydek said.
The approximate cost of the project was $169,614.[[In-content Ad]]
