It took Warsaw's varsity boys soccer team less than seven minutes to score Tuesday evening.

It turned out to be the game-winner.

Hosting Northern Lakes Conference and U.S. 30 rival Plymouth at the City-County Athletic Complex in the regular season finale, Warsaw put itself on the scoreboard 6:29 into the first 40-minute half when senior Jake Rogers found the back of the Rockies' net.

And by keeping the ball on Plymouth's half of the field the majority of the game and not allowing the Rockies many scoring opportunities, it was the only goal Warsaw needed.

"We tried a little different look, and I thought we put together some decent soccer," said Tiger head coach Scott Bauer. "We dropped Jake (Rogers) back to midfield. That gave us a little more composure in that part of the field."

Warsaw played the game without senior Nate Salsgiver, who was given a red card in Saturday's game at rival Wawasee and sat out Tuesday's contest.

To counter the absence of one of his senior leaders, Bauer moved Rogers back to midfielder and allowed sophomore Michael Reinholt to start his first varsity game.

"I thought all in all we defended pretty well," said Bauer. "Plymouth had opportunities. They're a pretty good side. We probably made Plymouth play more attack to catch up."

The shutout win improved Warsaw's record to 9-3-4. The Rockies fell to 8-4-3.

Not only was Tuesday's game the final contest of the regular season, it may have been the last time the Tigers will play at the CCAC.

Warsaw is projected to play at its new soccer field next season. The new soccer field will be located behind Edgewood Middle School, just north of the WCHS tennis courts.

The Tigers are in action again Monday when they open play in the Argos Sectional. Warsaw will play Oregon-Davis at 7 p.m.

Warsaw enters sectional play searching for its fourth straight sectional championship.

"We're going for a four-peat," said Bauer. "It'll be more difficult than the three-peat We're the team that everybody wants to knock off. We've got a target on our back."

Warsaw's junior varsity team tied Plymouth 1-1 Tuesday. Micah Price scored the Tigers' lone goal on an assist from Trenton Porter. The JV Tigers are currently 10-0-2 on the season and play in a tournament Saturday at Goshen.
