HUNTINGTON - For the second time this season, Fort Wayne Snider got the best of Warsaw's varsity volleyball team.

After the Tigers raced out to a 6-0 record at the start of the season, Snider ended Warsaw's win streak with an 8-15, 15-13, 15-7 win on the Tigers' home floor.

After Warsaw clawed back in dramatic fashion to edge No. 9 McCutcheon Saturday in the semifinals of the Huntington North Regional, Snider, also ranked No. 9, topped the Tigers 13-15, 15-3, 15-5.

Warsaw, whose last regional championship came in 1996, ends its season at 26-9; Snider improves to 32-7 and will face No. 3 Muncie Central (33-5) Saturday in the semifinal round of the state finals.

"We made too many errors," second-year Warsaw coach Tanya Coon said. "Snider is a tough team, they earned the win, but we made a lot of errors."

After the Tigers won the first game 15-13, it was all Snider from there.

The Panthers used a tipping game from its power players - six-foot seniors Jasmine Fullove and Erin Heffner - to put the ball down on a Warsaw defense that played big in the first game.

"You have no idea," Coon said when asked the difference from the first game to the second and third games. "We played them tough, but then they (Snider) started using a tipping game in the second and third games."

Snider jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the second game before sophomore Nicole DeFord served up Warsaw's second point. After a sideout from both teams, Heffner's serving and her teammates' tipping game, put four more points on the lead, giving the Panthers a 13-2 lead.

After another sideout from each team, Fullove served up the last two points of the game, knotting the match at one game each.

Another key start to the third game led to the deciding win for the Panthers. Snider jumped out to leads of 8-0 and 10-3, before senior Andrea Saldivar served up two points to cut the lead in half.

Senior Suzanne Hayden served up three points to inch Snider ever so closer to a trip to state. After a sideout, junior Sarah Davis served up the final two points, the first serve being an ace, to give the Panthers the win.

Snider won state titles in 1987 and 1991, and was state runner-up in 1973.
