Warsaw Gymnasts Pick Up Win On Senior Night

Senior Night for the Warsaw gymnastics team was extra special for Tiger Andrea Calhoun.

Not only did her team win the meet, she earned her first first-place finish of the year with an 8.35 on the floor exercise.

Impressive by itself, the performance takes on more meaning after learning that Calhoun was unable to practice over the summer after ankle stabilization surgery.

"I just came back in November, and this is the first first-place finish I have had all season," said Calhoun. "I was excited to get an 8.3 on the floor."

The Tigers overcame the emotions of senior night to pick up a 94.0-85.55 win over Lakeland. Prairie Heights, which had only two competitors, scored 43.05 points.

"Our scores just keep going up every meet," said Warsaw coach Carole Patrick. "That's all we ask, and the girls have done well."

Along wih Calhoun's first-place finish in the floor exercise, the Tigers captured first-place finishes in all the events in the meet, including the all-around competition.

Another Tiger, Katie Kusserow, won the vault with a score of 8.3 and the beam with 8.35 points as well as the all-around contest with a total score of 31.9.

Sophomore Jakayla Snodgrass earned the other Warsaw first with a 7.95 on the bars.

"I am so pleased with the performances tonight, the girls were wonderful," said Patrick. "These girls are such hard workers."

Senior Tonya Mochocki finished the evening with a 6.4 on the balance beam after completing an original routine on the balance beam.

"We work hard to make our routines original," said Patrick. "We had some high scores on the beam tonight."

Along with Kusserow's top finish on the vault, the Tigers secures third and fourth-place finishes as well. Snodgrass was third with an 8.0, while Calhoun tied for fourth with a 7.9.

The Warsaw squad also fared well in the floor exercise competition. Calhoun was first, and Kusserow was close behind with an 8.15. Snodgras scored an 8.05 to snatch third place.

Snodgrass and Calhoun went 1-2 on the bars, and Kusserow and Snodgrass were first and fourth, respectively on the balance beam.

With the strong performances in each event, the Tigers fared well in the all-around competition. Along with Kusserow's first, Calhoun and Snodgrass tied for third place overall with total scores of 31.05.

The win improves Warsaw's record to 6-3 on the season. The Tigers travel to West Noble Thursday for another meet.

"These last couple meets we will be working on fine tuning," said Patrick. "The sectional is coming up, so we are getting ready."
