Warsaw Golfers Improve On Conference Mark

MIDDLEBURY - Despite a rough night putting, the Warsaw golf team edged Concord and Northridge in an NLC three-way meet Thursday.

Warsaw shot a 210 to beat Concord by five strokes. Northridge ended third with a 223.

Warsaw's Ashley Cooper and Northridge's Stephanie Berry both shot a 49 and Kerri Wroebel followed up those scores with a 52.

In B-team action, Concord won with a 233, while Warsaw shot 240 and Northridge 270. Lesley Daniels led the Tigers with a 54. The junior varsity team improved to 7-1 on the year.

Warsaw (10-0, 3-0) will be at Goshen with NorthWood Tuesday.

Valley Over Wabash 15-3, 15-9

At Wabash, Valley set a new school record by winning Thursday over Wabash.

The Vikings improved to 4-0 on the year, which is the best start ever for a Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team.

Rhonda Doud had 12 assists, and Brooke Fisher had six aces and five kills for the Vikings. Inga Vardermark had three aces, and Jennifer Studebaker had four kills, three blocks and four digs. Amy Nellans added two kills and two blocks.

In junior varsity action, the team improved to 6-2 with a 15-6, 15-5 win over Wabash. Kyleigh Gast had six aces, and Lynette Wilcox had seven kills. Jamie Doud added six assists.

Valley will compete in the Manchester Tournament Saturday at 9 a.m.

FW Snider Over

Warsaw 15-11, 15-11

Warsaw struggled Thursday against Fort Wayne Snider, dropping a match in straight sets.

Jessica Zaugg had 15 assists, while Nancy Mason had six kills and three solo blocks. Kyla Stanley had seven digs and three aces.

In junior varsity action, Warsaw lost 14-16, 15-9, 15-13. Jacquie Burns had 19 assists and two solo blocks. Hilary O'Connell had 13 digs and was 12-of-12 serving while Myra Sells had eight kills as the team dropped to 2-1 on the year.

The freshman team also lost to Snider 15-8, 11-15, 15-6. Holly Stackhouse had nine kills and Leah Kiphart had 11 assists and three aces.

Warsaw will be at the Mishawaka Invite Saturday against Clinton Prairie at 9 a.m.

In the loss to Elkhart Memorial, Amy Zercher had seven kills and an ace. Natalie Will added six kills. Erin Newcomer had nine assists for the Panthers.

In the win over Lakeland, Erin Newcomer had 14 assists and Kasey Chamberlin had nine kills.

NorthWood (2-2) will compete in the Prairie Heights Invitational Saturday at 9 a.m.

In junior varsity action, Whitko won 15-12, 15-2 as the Squires fell to 1-1 on the year. Mandy Phillips was 8-of-11 serving with four aces for Manchester.

In freshman action, Manchester won its season opener 15-12, 9-15, 15-3.

Manchester (2-0) will host the Manchester Invite Saturday at 9 a.m.

At Knox, both the Triton boys and girls teams opened the season victoriously Thursday.

On the boys side, Mason McIntyre won the event with a time of 17:13. Nate Gephart placed third with a time of 17:47.

In girls action, Shelly Miller won the event in a time of 17:33. Reghan Kreft was third with a time of 19:20.
