Warsaw Girls Win Golf Sectional

As cliche as it may sound, being the home team was certainly an advantage for Warsaw's varsity girls golf team Saturday.
And on a day when some high scores were turned in at Stonhenge Golf Club, both individually and as a team, the Tigers turned in the lowest score and cruised past the rest of the sectional field.
Warsaw, which shot a 366 to win the sectional championship a year ago, won the team title Saturday by firing a four-person score of 345.
Northridge, which was the runner-up to the Tigers in last year's sectional, finished second again Saturday with a score of 366, followed by Goshen (393), Wawasee (393), Columbia City (401), Concord (408), Whitko (442), Tippecanoe Valley (443), Elkhart Memorial (454), Elkhart Central (470) and Triton (629).
"I think it's big," Warsaw coach Chris LaLonde said of her Tigers being familiar with the course. "Last year we shot 366, and this year we improved by 21 strokes. We played good on the front, but on the back every team probably added four or five strokes (per person)."
Warsaw shot 162 on Stonehenge's front nine and held a 16-stroke advantage over Northridge and a 25-stroke advantage over Columbia City at the turn.
The top three teams, as well as the top three individuals not on an advancing team, will compete in Saturday's regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville.
While there was no drama surrounding who would win the team championship once scores starting rolling in, it was the final transfer spot to the regional that was much-talked about.
Goshen, based on the fifth-man tiebreaker, will join Warsaw and Northridge at the regional Saturday, while Wawasee's season is over.
Only the top four scores are used in the overall team score, and Redskin senior Ashley Hartsough bested Warrior Madi Hike's 119.
The Warriors' No. 1 golfer, Jessica Rondeau, however, did advance as an individual with her 18-hole round of 87.
"It went down to the last stroke, that's what happens," said Wawasee coach Scott DeHart. "There's always places you can think back to where you could have lost a stroke."
Junior Emily Johnson led the Tigers with a 77, finishing second to individual sectional champion Lyndsey McBride from Northridge, who shot a 74.
Other Warsaw scores included Megan Krizmanich's 88, Laura Manning's 89, Elena Duncan's 91 and Jenny Manning's 92.
"Laura and Jenny Manning played solid," said LaLonde. "They've always been right there. Elena and Megan are only two years into golf, what they did today is great. They just need more confidence."
Other scores for Wawasee included Taylor Goshert's 93, Kelsey McAdams' 97, Kelsey Mark's 116.
Tippecanoe Valley, which had just four golfers compete Saturday, was led by Margaret Warren's 94. Allison Rock shot a 95 for the Vikings, while Hannah Krueger shot 123 and Abby Sroufe 131.
Jayanna Begley carded a 96 to lead Whitko, while Shelby Kreger shot 113, Kelsea Visalli shot 114, Adrienne Carrico shot 119 and Katie Strandlund shot 140.
Bethany Shively led Triton with a 136, while Brittany Mason carded a 155, Jennifer Irvin a 157, Abby Reichert a 181 and Kelsey Bessinger a 185.
Advancing from the Warsaw Sectional as individuals were Concord's Jessica Dooley (81), Rondeau (87) and Columbia City's Brittany Kyler (88).
