Savanah Stearns has been diagnosed with pancreatitis and her family is in need of a vehicle to help her and her daughter get to and from doctor’s appointments in Fort Wayne.
Stearns, 20, Warsaw, and fiance Tyler Mulldune, 25, have a 1-1/2-month-old daughter, Ava.
Stearns said when she was pregnant with her daughter in November 2013 she was having gall bladder problems but doctors couldn’t remove it because of the pregnancy.
She went to the emergency room at Kosciusko Community Hospital and doctors found sludge in her gall bladder. She had her gall bladder removed four weeks ago at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne and had gall stones.
Ava was born Aug. 29 at KCH by C-section and Stearns had a healthy pregnancy.
Stearns said after her pregnancy she got sick at home. She went to KCH to get a CAT scan and blood sample and doctors discovered her pancreas was inflamed and she was sent to Lutheran by ambulance.
“I was told at KCH that my pancreas was inflamed and I was hooked up to antibiotics to get the infection down and they told me I had pancreatitis,” Stearns said.
She was not allowed to eat and she was at Lutheran for a week and a half and the second time for another week and was diagnosed with pancreatitis at Lutheran three weeks ago.
“We went to the doctor last week and they told us this is a form of pancreatitis no one wants because it is a severe case,” Mulldune said.
Stearns takes medications for her pancreatitis and goes to Lutheran.
They don’t have a vehicle of their own.  She still has her pancreatitis but not her gallbladder.
Stearns said it would mean everything if the family could rent a vehicle.
“It would bring a lot of stress off us because I have had to call and cancel appointments because we don’t have a car,” Mulldune said.
Stearns said the car would also help her daughter to get to her appointment.
“It hurts because she is not able to get the help she needs,” Stearns said.
Mulldune gets supplemental security income from the government of $729 that pays for rent and bills and they don’t work and Stearns is a stay at home mom.
