Playing their fourth game in eight days, the Warsaw Tigers struggled with turnovers, toughness and their shooting touch. It all added up to a 49-44 loss to the visiting Panthers.
“I'm extremely disappointed in how we played from the beginning,” said Ogle, whose team fell to 9-4 on the season, while Snider improved to 8-4. “We were impatient on offense, and we shot 21 three-pointers. That's a recipe for us to lose to anyone we play. We didn't hardly get any offensive rebounds, didn't play physical and had too many turnovers. We took two steps backward tonight.”
In a 71-37 win over Elkhart Central Tuesday night, Warsaw made 10 of 15 three-point attempts. Against Snider, the Tigers were 1 of 9 from the arc in the first half and 5 of 21 for the game.
Warsaw was 18 of 43 (42 percent) from the field overall, while Snider was 2 of 7 from the arc and 20 of 37 (54 percent) overall.
The Tigers actually had fewer turnovers than Snider, 14-12, but Warsaw's turnovers came at very inopportune times.
After trailing 25-14 at halftime, Warsaw cut the Panthers' lead to 31-30 early in the fourth quarter.
Rather than taking the lead, however, the Tigers turned the ball over on three-straight possessions and Snider scored the game's next five points.
Snider score 16 points off Warsaw turnovers, while the Tigers scored seven points off Snider’s ball-handling miscues.
“That was a bad sequence for us,” said Ogle. “Our lack of scoring didn't hurt us as much as our ball-handling issues did.”
The Tigers cut the deficit to two points two more times – at 38-36 and 40-38 – but couldn't get over the hump.
Snider led 12-6 after one quarter of play, 25-14 at halftime and 31-25 at the end of the third quarter.
“I think we were a little tired physically and mentally,” Ogle said of the eight-day stretch that included four games, a stretch in which his team went 2-2.
Junior Tim Swanson led Warsaw with 13 points off the bench, while senior Jordan Stookey scored 12 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter, and junior Rashaan Jackson chipped in with 11 points.
Junior Jake Mangas was the only other Tiger to score, finishing the game with eight points.
For Snider, senior Trey'von Covington led the way with 18 points, finishing the game 7 of 9 from the field and 3 of 3 at the charity stripe.
Junior Devlyn Williams finished with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
No other player for the Panthers scored more than four points.
With their busy stretch now in their rear-view mirror, the Tigers can focus on just one game per week for the next three weeks.
The Tigers play at Concord Friday, followed by a trip to NorthWood on Jan. 31 and a trip to North Side Gym on Feb. 7 to play Elkhart Memorial.
“We're looking forward to having four days of practice and just one game,” said Ogle.
