Warsaw, Elkhart Central Tie In Opener

The Warsaw boys soccer team opened the season against Elkhart Central with a tie Wednesday night at the CCAC. The Tigers and Chargers played to a 0-0 stalemate.
Warsaw goal keeper Scott Stouder defended the Tiger goal and knocked away five shots on goal. In all, the Tigers got six shots at the Elkhart Central goal, but could not get past the Charger keeper.
Sweeper back Kyle Masur, defender Ben Stephens and midfielder Tim Zentz led the Tiger team.
"I think in the first half our team was shocked by the game speed," said Warsaw coach Scott Bauer. "Our scrimmage at Kokomo was a much slower paced game. In the second half, we made good adjustments and leveled the playing field."
The Tigers, now 0-0-1, will play at Marion next Thursday.

The Wawasee girls golf team moved its record to above .500 with a win over Huntington North at Maxwelton Wednesday night. The Warriors topped the Vikings by four stokes, 204-208. Ashley Ward led the Wawasee team with a 46, while ReBecca Stoelting shot a 49. Wawasee is now 6-5 on the season and will host Northern Lakes Conference rivals Warsaw and Goshen Tuesday at Maxwelton.

The Wawasee girls soccer team opened the season with a 3-1 road loss to East Noble. East Noble had three solo first-half goals. The lone Warriors' score came in the second half when Murielle Mahnken passed a corner kick to Dusty Krull who headed the ball in to the goal. "Opening game jitters and lack of intensity in the first half," said Rick Shipley, Wawasee head coach. "We put in a good solid second-half effort." The Warriors are now 0-1 and will play Bethany Christian Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Warsaw's varsity girls soccer team opened its 2000 season with a 1-1 tie at Elkhart Central Thursday. The Blue Blazers scored on a penalty kick in the first half. Warsaw later tied the game on a breakaway goal by Kari Wildman. Freshman Sara Sisson made the assist on the play. The Tigers will be in action again Saturday when they host Argos at 1 p.m. at the CCAC.
