Warsaw received more than 13,800  votes in a contest last month held by PetSafe.

The winner, Huntington, W. Va., received $100,000 toward building a dog park in the city.

Warsaw finished sixth out of 15 finalists.

Warsaw received more votes, 13,800-plus, then it has residents, 13,700.

Warsaw was the second smallest finalist in terms of population in the contest.

Despite not winning the contest, plans for Rudy’s Dog Park to come to Warsaw are still a go.

“We just want to thank everyone who voted and participated,” said Dan Zachary, practice manager for Lake City Animal Clinic.

Rudy’s Dog Park, a not-for-profit organization, was founded by Dr. Carla Carlton.

Carlton said that when she came to Warsaw and purchased  Lake City Animal Clinic in 2007, her goal was always to help bring a dog park to the area.

Currently, Kosciusko County doesn’t have a dog park.

There is no specific timeline on the completion of the park though work continues on it.

Currently, the board of directors is putting together a capital budget.

The park will have two small dog area and two large dog areas.

Carlton serves as the treasurer on the board of directors.

Other board members are:
Johanne Touchette, president
Deb Wiggins, vice president
Jennifer Cox, secretary
Mia Bingham
Peggy Bodin
Sherri Morrisette

Zachary was thankful for all the help community offered during the contest and said anyone wishing to continue volunteering or helping with the dog park is more than welcome to do so.
