COLUMBIA CITY - This hasn't been a good week for Warsaw soccer teams and suspended sectional games.

Three days after the Tiger girls had their sectional game (in a shootout) with Columbia City suspended because of darkness, the Tiger boys got the same fate when their sectional game with the Carroll Chargers was suspended because of impending inclement weather Thursday.

Unlike the girls, though, the boys won't have much time to think about the continuation as their game will be completed tonight at 7:30 p.m. The girls had their Monday game suspended until Saturday at 10 a.m.

The game was suspended just as the second half was about to begin and Carroll leading 1-0. It was a little windy when play was about to begin again, but tournament officials knew the storm was on its way and took no chances in starting the second half.

"I don't know who it will help coming into tomorrow (Friday) night," Warsaw coach Corey Rose said. "It will give time to heal up my injured player (Nate Krogel). It was a pretty good sprained ankle. It will give him some time to get back to where he needs to be. That is the only good thing about it."

Krogel, a midfielder, injured his right ankle when he went up for a ball midway through the first half and landed on it wrong.

Carroll got its goal late in the first half. After a questionable call on the sidelines when Warsaw's Brett Dickerson was called for interference gave the ball to Carroll, the Chargers cashed in on the opportunity a few minutes later on an unassisted goal by Thomas Newhard.

The Chargers outshot the Tigers 10-6 in that first half, but the Tigers definitely got their chances to score with several of their shots coming right in front of the Charger goal.

"I would have rather played it tonight," Rose said. "They scored a goal, but we were pressuring the goal just as much as they were. We had two or three opportunities that we just missed. I think second half we would have come on."

The game started a lot differently than last time the two teams met. In a regular season matchup, the defending sectional champion Chargers jumped out to the 3-0 advantage and the two teams played evenly after that as Carroll got the win.

"We knew what we needed to do coming in, so another time is not going to make a difference," Rose said.

The winner of Friday's continuation will face Huntington North, a 3-1 winner over Columbia City, in the championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. [[In-content Ad]]
