Warsaw Boys Win Again...

Mangas scores 24 in 49-35 victory over Elkhart Central
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

Admittedly, Warsaw boys basketball coach Doug Ogle was concerned about a letdown following Friday’s 15-point win at Class 3A No. 2 NorthWood.
Junior Kyle Mangas, however, erased any worries Ogle may have had, scoring a game-high 24 points and leading the Class 4A No. 5 Tigers to a 49-35 win over the visiting Elkhart Central Blue Blazers Saturday night.
Mangas, who was held to 10 points at NorthWood, returned to form and was 9 of 13 from the field overall, 4 of 6 from the arc, and 2 of 2 at the charity stripe.
In helping the Tigers improve to 17-0, Mangas scored 16 of his 24 points in the second and third quarters, and he did so with an injured ankle.
“We thought he was gonna play, and he did,” Ogle said of Mangas and his sore ankle. “He played really well. He shot the ball really well. He looked like his self.”
Senior Paul Marandet, who shouldered the scoring load Friday with a career-high 23 points, scored nine points against Central, while senior Riley Rhoades chipped in with six points and four boards, and junior Jeremy David finished with four points and seven rebounds.
As a team, the Tigers were 17 of 34 from the field overall, 5 of 11 from the arc, and 10 of 14 at the free throw line.
Facing a Warsaw team that gives up just 40 points per game, the Blue Blazers were 12 of 35 overall, 3 of 16 from three-point range, and 8 of 10 at the charity stripe.
The Tigers led 12-7 after one quarter of play, 20-16 at halftime and 33-27 at the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the final frame.
The letdown Ogle admitted he was worried about, Mangas and Co. put that to rest.
“I’m happy with this win, very happy,” said Ogle. “We were worried about a letdown, and this being a trap game. Our players, I think they demonstrated that they have some competitive credibility.”
At 17-0, the Tigers are the only undefeated team in Class 4A.
Class 3A No. 1 Tipton is the only other undefeated team in the state, sporting a 14-0 record this season.
Central, a possible sectional opponent for the Tigers, fell to 10-4 with its second loss of the weekend.
Junior Cornell Conner led the Blue Blazers with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Clinton Parker finished with seven points and six boards, and classmate Langston Johnson chipped in with seven points.
The Tigers are in action again Thursday when they travel to North Side Gym to play Elkhart Memorial.

Understanding Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) And Using Them
Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
