Warsaw Boys Top Goshen, Stay Perfect In NLC Play

Friday night's Northern Lakes Conference game between the Warsaw Tigers and the Goshen Redskins was not the prettiest game of the season, but Warsaw coach Doug Ogle was pleased with the outcome.
"Although we won the game," said Ogle after his team's 45-35 win over Goshen, "I thought we could have played better."
Goshen's Andrew Bartley opened the game with a basket at the 6:21 mark to put the Redskins up 2-0.
However, the Goshen lead didn't last long as Warsaw senior Mark Sherman hit back-to-back baskets to give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage.
A bucket by Goshen's Scan Farver tied the score at 4-all, but then Sherman struck again to put Warsaw up 6-4.
Redskin sophomore Andy Overpeck scored a basket at the 2:29 mark to knot the score at 6, and that's where the team remained until the second stanza.
Farver and Jeremy Woodford scored the first four points of the second frame to give Goshen a 10-6 lead with 6:06 left in the first half.
The Ryan Schultz and Adam Griggs hit back-to-back buckets to tie the score at 10.
After trading baskets again, the Tigers and Redskins found themselves tied at 12 and then tied again at 14 before Griggs scored five straight points, giving Warsaw a 19-14 advantage.
Goshen's Anthony Mockler hit a free throw at the 29.1 mark to make the score 19-15 in Warsaw's favor at the half.
The Tigers extended their lead to opened the second half. Sherman and Todd Braddock scored the first four points of the third quarter to extend Warsaw's lead to eight, 23-15.
However, Goshen fought back to cut Warsaw's lead to one, 23-22, at the 2:50 mark when a three-pointer by Jeff Swartz swished through the net.
But the end of the quarter, Warsaw held a four point lead, 29-25.
The Redskins got back within two points at the 7:42 mark in the fourth quarter when Farver tossed in a pair of free throws to make the score 29-27.
Enter Tiger junior Michael Moore.
Moore hit a three-pointer at the 7:02 mark, followed that with a two-point basket at the 6:28 mark and the hit a free throw at the 6:08 mark to extend Warsaw's lead to eight, 35-27.
"In the second half, Michael Moore really got going," said Ogle. "He responded nicely in the fourth quarter."
At the 3:52 mark in the fourth frame, Braddock hit a basket to give the Tigers their biggest lead of the game, 39-29.
Goshen fought back to get within seven, 42-35, at the 1:35 mark, but Moore hit three free throws through the end of the game to restore Warsaw's 10-point lead, 45-35.
Moore led the Tigers with 12 points, all scored in the second half. Sherman added nine points, while Schultz and Griggs added 10 points each.
Warsaw outrebounded Goshen 25-18 in the game, a positive for coach Ogle.
"I thought our rebounding was better tonight," said Ogle. "I think our rebounding began to wear on them late in the game."
The win moves Warsaw's record to 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Goshen falls to 2-9 on the season and 1-2 in NLC play.
The Tigers host Elkhart Central tonight at 6:15 p.m.
