Eric Epperson, senior public relations and communications director for the Mineapolis-based medical technology company, said this morning he could not give a number of potential job losses, but confirmed some will take place.
The number has been reported as approximately 50, but he said he wanted to emphasize the total is not certain. He also said the changes are not an across-the-board cut.
“Unfortunately, that includes headcount reductions,” he said. “The number is in flux and it’s likely to change by the end of the month.”
No employees have been notified of layoffs, he added.
The Warsaw location, which employs about 575 people, has been identified among Medtronic Spine facilities globally as part of the restructuring plan announced April 4.
The restructuring “will include a number of actions including targeted employee reductions in certain business functions and locations,” according to a company statement, and is aimed at a “return to growth” and acheivement of financial goals.
“We are addressing the near-term cost and pricing challenges facing our business, while also responding to the long-term dynamics of the global healthcare environment and changing needs of our stakeholders,” the release states.
The company will focus on cost reductions that will not impact employees, Epperson said. Any Warsaw employees whose jobs are affected will receive severance packages and assistance in finding new internal opportunities if possible, he said.
