CRAWFORDSVILLE - A win is a win.

Needing to pick up a victory in the second game of a three-game pool-play series, the Warsaw Senior Baseball All-Stars benefited from the bad luck of the Anderson All-Stars Tuesday at the Indiana Senior Baseball State Tournament, played at Southmont High School in Crawfordsville.[[In-content Ad]]Because one player missed the team bus, and another left the team to join the high school football team, Anderson was left with eight players, initiating a 7-0 forfeit - one run per inning.

"You hate to win by forfeit," Warsaw coach Art Gosnell said. "We'll take it. Now we're going to have to come back tomorrow and play Jeffersonville, which is a good team."

Jeffersonville enters the Wednesday game with 1-1 record after losing 12-5 to Seymour Tuesday. Seymour also got the better of Warsaw in the Pool A, getting a 7-2 win Monday.

Warsaw's win Tuesday leaves it with a 1-1 record in Pool A, where Anderson sits at 0-2, Seymour at 2-0 and Jeffersonville at 1-1. Warsaw and Jeffersonville square off today at 2:30 p.m., where the winner will most likely advance on to Thursday's semifinal round. If two teams end pool play with identical records, the team which won the head-to-head game advances. If a further tiebreaker is needed, the total runs allowed during the three games will be added up to determine the team that advances.

Going into Wednesday, Warsaw had surrendered seven runs, Anderson 14, Seymour seven and Jeffersonville 18.

Even with Tuesday's forfeiture, Warsaw and Anderson still met on the field in a practice session, which doubled as more of a pick-up game.

"Basically we just wanted them to have fun," Gosnell said of the game, which was umpired by Warsaw assistant coach Dave Anson, with the score not being officially kept. "We went ahead and let them laugh and have fun. We were still able to hit live pitching."
