The Warsaw girls tennis team settled for fourth place in Saturday's eight-team invitational.

Indianapolis Park Tudor won and was followed by Zionsville, Fort Wayne Snider and Warsaw.

Both of Warsaw's doubles teams placed third. The No. 1 doubles team of Kim Paczkowski and Anne Jarrette finished third as did the No. 2 doubles team of Lisa Estep and Brooke Westover.

Warsaw No. 2 singles player Krista Coppes also placed third.

Warsaw opens the Northern Lakes Conference season with a 4:30 p.m. Tuesday match at Plymouth.

Wawasee's No. 2 doubles team of Laura Gunden and Laura Lundin turned in the most competitive match, forcing three sets. They lost to Andrea Troup and Megan Thomas 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.

Wawasee won the junior varsity match 3-2.

Goshen's varsity team improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NLC.

Wawasee, 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the NLC, has a match at 4:30 this afternoon at Fairfield.

Warsaw Takes Third

At Michigan City, the Warsaw Tiger golf team tied for third in Saturday's 14-team Michigan City Marquette Invitational. The match was held at Michigan City Municipal Golf Course.

Gary Andrean, ranked fifth in the latest Associated Press poll, won with a score of 309 and was followed by LaPorte with 329, Warsaw with 330 and Michigan City with 330.

The Tigers returned only two golfers from last year's team with any varsity experience, but they still fared well. Junior Kevin Powell, the only player back from last year's sectional team, shot a 77 to lead Warsaw. He tied for fourth overall and was two strokes off the medalist score.

Also for Warsaw, senior Ben Barkey shot an 80, freshman Justin Howell II an 82, junior Matt Teevan a 91 and junior Scott Davison a 94.

Tippecanoe Valley also competed and finished 10th with a score of 354. Darren Parker shot an 81 to lead Valley, and Jake Rucoi added an 84.

In junior varsity action, Warsaw won Saturday's Rochester Invitational at Millcreek Golf Club. Warsaw shot a 361 and was followed by Ben Davis with 363, Washington with 363 and Valparaiso with 363. Warsaw freshman Jason Henthorn paced the Tigers with an 88.

Tippecanoe Valley placed 18th in the junior varsity invitational.

Warsaw's varsity team competes in the Lafayette Jeff Invitational next Saturday. The first Warsaw tee time is 10:24 a.m. Warsaw's junior varsity team competes at Sprig O Mint in the LaVille Invitational at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

Valley meets Bethany Christian in a 4:30 match this afternoon at Black Squirrel Golf Club in Goshen.

Liebsch struck out eight and walked none in the six-inning win. Jill Schlotterback, Shannon Barger and Shanna Smith helped her out with two hits each.

Elkhart Memorial defeated Warsaw 17-7 in five innings in the junior varsity game.

Bremen Sweeps Valley

At Bremen, the Lions swept a Saturday doubleheader with Tippecanoe Valley.

Bremen won 9-5 and 12-0. Valley trailed 5-4 after 4 1/2 innings in the first game, but Bremen scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-4 lead.

Bremen shut out Valley on four hits in the second game.

The Warsaw junior varsity baseball team hosted and swept a Saturday doubleheader with Columbia City.

The Tigers won a 2-0 pitching duel the first game. Adam Grimm tossed a complete-game five-hitter, striking out seven and walking only one. Jeff Sherman and John Leininger drove in the two Warsaw runs.

Warsaw pounded Columbia City 17-4 in five innings in the second game. Steve Siebenmorgen went 4 for 4 for the Tigers, and Leininger homered and drove in five runs. Mike VanLaeken had two hits and drove in three runs.

Jason Barrett picked up the complete-game win.

Columbia City fell to 0-3.

Marion Relays

At Marion, Manchester competed in the 47th annual Marion Relays on Saturday. Competing in the "B" Division, the Squires took the first place trophy. The team won on the strength of their four relay victories in the medley, the sprint medley, the 400 relay, and the 1600 relay. Also taking first place was Nick Iden in the 110 hurdles and Rex Reimer in the long jump. Reimer was named most valuable individual in the "B" division.

Manchester will compete Tuesday at North Miami.

At Syracuse, Elkhart Central pitcher Steve Taylor held the Warriors to two runs as Wawasee fell to 2-2 with the Saturday loss.

Brad Swope doubled and drove in both of Wawasee's runs. Farhan Haq, who struck out nine, took the loss.

Wawasee is at Warsaw at 4:30 this afternoon.

The Warsaw junior varsity baseball team hosted and swept a Saturday doubleheader with Columbia City.

The Tigers won a 2-0 pitching duel the first game. Adam Grimm tossed a complete-game five-hitter, striking out seven and walking only one. Jeff Sherman and John Leininger drove in the two Warsaw runs.

Warsaw pounded Columbia City 17-4 in five innings in the second game. Steve Siebenmorgen went 4 for 4 for the Tigers, and Leininger homered and drove in five runs. Mike VanLaeken had two hits and drove in three runs.

Jason Barrett picked up the complete-game win.

Columbia City fell to 0-3.

Warsaw, 6-1, is at Wawasee at 4:30 this afternoon.

Marion Relays

At Marion, Manchester competed in the 47th annual Marion Relays on Saturday. Competing in the "B" Division, the Squires took the first place trophy. The team won on the strength of their four relay victories in the medley, the sprint medley, the 400 relay, and the 1600 relay. Also taking first place was Nick Iden in the 110 hurdles and Rex Reimer in the long jump. Reimer was named most valuable individual in the "B" division.

Manchester will compete Tuesday at North Miami.
