Warriors Top NorthWood In OT

The Warriors survived a late NorthWood comeback in the extra period to hang on for an 84-83 Northern Lakes Conference victory Friday in Syracuse.[[In-content Ad]]Wawasee's Brad Granger and Brandon Geiger each shot 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in overtime to seal the victory.
"Overtime games are just another game to us. We battled back and fought to the end," Wawasee coach Phil Mishler said.
The Warriors jumped to an 82-75 lead with 1:05 left in overtime. Led by Matt Troyer, the Panthers battled back as Troyer hit for five points in the last minute to pull to within one.
Wawasee trailed by as many as seven points in the fourth quarter. NorthWood trailed 28-27 at the half. Skyler Titus scored 23 points in the second half to help Northwood take control of the game.
"Titus didn't hit in the first half and he got hot in the second. You have to give credit to NorthWood they played us very tough," Mishler said.
NorthWood lost five key players at the end of the fourth quarter and in overtime, including Titus. They finished with 31 fouls, 21 coming in the second half.
Wawasee junior Ross Stichter led all scorers with 28 points, finishing 6 of 14 shooting from behind the three-point line. He also led the Warriors with six rebounds.
"NorthWood hit the defensive boards hard against us. That is their game and we were hoping to slow them down," Mishler said.
Most of the first half consisted of small short runs by both NorthWood and Wawasee to keep the game close. Early on, it appeared as though the Warriors were going to run away with the game, but NorthWood continued to fight back.
Geiger added 20 points on 16 of 18 shots from the free-throw line. He finished with seven rebounds.
Wesley Kaiser added 15 points and one steal for the Warriors, and Amadeo finished with 13 points before he fouled out in overtime.
Titus led NorthWood with 27 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Mcdowell came of the bench to score 17 points and pull down eight rebounds.
Dustin Bussard also contributed with 17 points. Michael Horner added nine points and Matt Troyer finished with seven.
