"I don't think we played the way we are capable of playing," said Wawasee coach Don Deck. "And our scores reflect that."

"Tonight we did not perform as well as we have in the past," said Manchester coach Gary Goshert. "I think the guys are all a little disappointed."

The Warriors and Squires may not have played to their potential, but Wawasee came out on top of Manchester 167-182.

One of the reasons for the high scores may have been the hard fast greens the players had to deal with.

"The greens were very fast," said Deck. "They were hard as a rock. I think that made the scores higher for both teams."

"That's part of the game," said Goshert. "You just have to play and adjust. Everyone had to deal with it. It's not an excuse, and it should not be an issue."

Possibly the most challenging hole of the evening for both teams was a tricky No. 7. The green was slanted from back to front, making play difficult.

Only two golfers, Joel Bickel and Josh Abrams of Wawasee, made par on the hole all day. On the par-3 hole, Manchester was 10-over-par as a team, while Wawasee was 6-over as a team.

"Today number seven was tough because of the way the green slanted from back to front," said Goshert. "It's slanted down hard and was difficult to play. As a team we played that hole 10-over, and Wawasee played it 6-over. It was a difficult hole for both teams."

Abrams, a member of Wawasee's junior varsity squad, had the best performance of the night with a 40 on the par-36 course

Kyle Lundy and Lucas White led the Wawasee varsity group with 41s, while Evan Schenkel led the Squires with a 43.

"Evan Schenkel was the medalist for us tonight," said Goshert. "He has shown some good improvement this week."

Wawasee improves to 6-0 on the season in head-to-head matches while Manchester sits at 3-3. Both the Warriors and the Squires will head to South Shore Golf Course to hit the links again at the 21-team Wawasee Invitational Saturday morning.
