Warrior Open Golfers Brave Storm, Raise Money
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
South Shore hosted the annual Wawasee High School's Warrior Open athletic outing July 14.
The event attracted 164 golfers and 41 teams in effort to raise money for the WHS athletic department. Although the bad weather that ripped through the area on that Monday put a damper on the finish of the event and sent the golfers scrambling for cover, tournament organizer Randy Aalbregtse said the money raised should be more than last year.
"It was a positive experience," Aalbregtse said. "It was tremendous. We got good cooperation from South Shore and all involved."
There were 110 tee sponsors for the event and the raffle handed out 120 prizes. Next year's event is scheduled for July 13 at Maxwelton.
On its home course, the team from the South Shore Pro Shop took top team honors. The team was made up of head pro Darrell Krugman, assistant pro Chris Clark, Jennifer DeVore and Jay Garr.
The rest of the results follow.

Tiger Tales
I got the chance to see Tiger Woods in person a couple of weeks ago at the Western Open in Chicago.
The guy can sure hit a golf ball. I watched him shoot an even-par 72 on the second day of the tournament. He was mad at himself of course, but he still looked good to me. And he went on to win the tournament.
But the most impressive part about watching Tiger wasn't his game, but the way the crowd reacted to him. Don't get me wrong because his game is very impressive. But the people just seem to draw to him like they did back in the 1960s with Arnold Palmer and the 1970s with Jack Nicklaus.
At one point as I was walking along and watching him, there was a crowd around a golf cart, and as I passed the cart I saw two men sitting in the cart and one had a hat on that read "Earl Woods." Even Tiger's dad gets hounded for autographs. He actually missed two or three of Tiger's holes because he was signing autographs.
Tiger Woods is certainly good for the game.

Griffing was eight shots back of winner Tony Soerries of Granger, who won his second straight Indiana Open title. Jerry Nelson and Stonehenge Executive Course pro Denny Hepler both finished in 22nd place in the Open with a 10-over total.
