AKRON – Wanda D. Hiers, 86, of 11431 E. Division Road, Akron, died at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 27, 2011, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

He was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Miami County, to John and Esther Darby Petterson. On July 20, 1946, in Fort Wayne, she married Richard C. Hiers, who survives.

She was a homemaker and worked and retired from Wen Products and the former Chamberlin Products, Akron. She graduated from Converse High School and was a member of Athens United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are five daughters, Norma Kay (and spouse Lynn) Smith, Akron; Martha (and spouse Rex) Utter and Wanda (and spouse Ron) Bruner, all of Rochester; Connie (and spouse Gary) Gerard, Elkhart; and Bonnie (and spouse Jeff) Gelbaugh, Etna Green; two sons, Richard Jr. (and spouse Judy) Hiers, Niles, Mich., and Robert (and spouse Pam) Hiers, Mentone; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Melba Williams and Carolyn (and spouse Jack) Vrooman, all of Wabash; Katie (and spouse Walter) Balg, Kokomo, and Madonna (and spouse Paul) Bender, Ocala, Fla. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastors Steve Fleck and  Michael McFarland officiating. Burial will be in Athens Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
